Baseball Finishes Sweep Of
Chattanooga State
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee - Freshman shortstop Alex
McClure's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning snapped
a 4-4 tie and lifted the No. 2 Walters State baseball team to a 5-4 victory
over Chattanooga State Sunday afternoon at Senator Field.
With the win, the Senators swept the three-game TJCCAA
series from the Tigers and improved to 14-3 overall, 6-0 in the conference.
Freshman Kyle Koeneman singled to begin the ninth
inning for Walters State and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nick
Langley. After the second out of the inning was recorded, McClure singled
off losing hurler Lee Henry to bring home Koeneman with the game-winning
run.
Freshman Cody Hawn smacked a pair of solo homers in
the win for Walters State, his fifth and sixth round-trippers of the season.
Langley added two singles.
Sophomore Coty Woods (3-0) worked 1 1/3 innings in
relief of starter David Francis to collect the mound victory. Francis, in
his first start of the season, worked 7 2.3 innings, giving up four runs
(one earned) on eight hits while striking out six and walking five.
The Senators return to action Wednesday with a
doubleheader at Tennessee Wesleyan. Scheduled start time for the twinbill is
1 p.m.
