Baseball Splits With
Spartanburg
MORRISTOWN, Tennessee - The Walters State baseball
team split a home doubleheader Tuesday with No. 3 ranked Spartanburg
Methodist, winning the opener, 7-6, before falling in the nightcap, 8-2.
With the split of the twimbill, the Senators are 11-3
on the season.
In the opener, Walters State rallied for a pair of
runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to erase a 6-5 deficit. Chad Hunter
had a RBI single to knot the count at 6-6 before Cody Hawn's sacrifice fly
drove in the game-winning run.
Dylan Pratt had two singles in the win for the
Senators. Freshman Kyle Koeneman homered while Hawn and Jesse Wierzbicki
each doubled. Sophomore reliever David Fracnis (3-1) worked 1 1/3 innings in
relief of starter Jack Snodgrass to earn the mound win.
In the second game, the Senators' lone runs came off
solo homers from Pratt and Koeneman.
Sophomore Adam Ray (2-1) was tagged with the mound
defeat in relief of starter Austin Bridhewater, who allowed three runs on
five hits while striking out eight batters in 4 1/3 innings.
The Senators return to the diamond Friday when TJCCAA
Eastern Division rival Chattanooga State comes to Morristown for a
three-game series. Scheduled start time at Senator Field is 2 p.m.
