Baseball Takes Two From Tigers

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee — The second-ranked Walters State Senator baseball squad posted an unusual sweep of a doubleheader Saturday against TJCCAA Eastern Division rival Chattanooga State at Senator Field.

In the first game, freshman lefthander Chad Bell (3-0) went the distance to remain undefeated on the season at 3-0 as the Senators cruised to a 12-4 decision. The second game ended in a forfeit by the Tigers after both Chattanooga State coaches had been ejected, one in the opening game and one in the third inning of the second game.

The opening game Saturday saw Bell allow four runs on seven hits while striking out nine and walking three. It was his first complete game of the season and first in a Walters State uniform.

Leading the offensive assault for the Senators, now 13-3 overall and 5-0 in the TJCCAA, were freshmen sluggers Dylan Pratt and Kyle Koeneman as both belted three-run homers in the victory.

Freshmen Cody Hawn and Alex McClure each had a double and a single for Walters State while fellow freshman Chad Hunter added two singles. Freshman Will Skinner chipped in a two-bagger.

In the second game, the Senators were leading 4-2 in the bottom of the third, thanks to a two-run homer by Hawn and a solo shot by Pratt, when the second Chattanooga State coach was tossed, forcing the forfeiture. The Tigers, after losing an appeal to the TJCCAA, now have the option to appeal the decision to the NJCAA national office.

The Senators and Tigers conclude their three-game series Sunday with a single game scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Senator Field.
