Getting to know … Jonathan Newbell

Sophomore guard Jonathan Newbell, a native of Gallatin and graduate of Gallatin High School, returns to Walters State after a freshman season in which he participated in 29 of 30 games during a season in which the Senators finished 20-10. Newbell averaged 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season.
Newbell is one of just five sophomores that return for the Senators this season, so his leadership will be counted on to help guide Walters State this season.

How tough was the transition from playing basketball in high school to playing in college?
JN: It was a little tough because the speed of the game is a lot faster in college.

Was there a player growing up that you looked up to or modeled your game after?
JN: Vince Carter.

To you, what is the most exciting part about the game of baseball?
JN: Dunking.

What is your pre-game routine?
JN: Stretching and listening to music.

Which one of your teammates probably sends the most text messages?
JN: Probably Addison Flynn or Big John Holleman.

What has been your most difficult class you have taken at WSCC?
JN: Biology.

What has been your favorite memory on the court in your career?
JN: Having a double-double against Simmons in the tournament last year.

What is it like playing for Coach Bill Carlyle?
JN: It’s tough at times, but Coach Carlyle knows what it takes to win.
