Softball Posts Twinbill Sweep

MORRISTOWN, Tennessee – The tough field conditions didn’t stop the Walters State softball team from sweeping a TJCCAA twinbill from Jackson State Sunday afternoon at the Lady Senator Softball Complex.

In the first game, freshman Gina Loflin doubled twice and drove in two runs to back the pitching of fellow freshman Alyssa Shoun in a 5-1 victory. The second game saw freshman Brittany Hill spin a two-hit shutout as the Lady Senators won, 2-0.

Walters State, with the doubleheader sweep, is now 22-11 overall and 6-2 in the conference while the Generals fell to 9-14, 3-8.

Shoun, in pushing her pitching record to 10-6, gave up one run on three hits while striking out six. In addition to Loflin’s two doubles, freshman Brittany Dixon added a pair of singles.

In the nightcap, Hill (7-3) gave up five hits while striking out two and walking two.

Dixon led the offense with a triple and a single while scoring both runs. Freshman Kristin Kirk had a double and two RBIs. Freshman Britani Fisher also had a two-bagger.
