The clinic was sponsored by the Morristown Health Department, but our student nurses made the process run very quickly.

The Bookstore now has copies of several of Frank X. Walker's books. Walker will be speaking at Walters State on Feb. 5 in an inaugural one-day conference on Appalachian literature and arts. High School Clinic This Weekend
Walters State will host the best young band musicians from the area in the Walters State Community Band High School Clinic Friday and Saturday. The Community Band is directed by well-known band director Tom Shupe. The clinic will end with a free concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The Math Lab is in MBSS-222 and is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (until 5:30 p.m. on Thursday). Other times may be available through appointment. Tennessee Tech Transfer Scholarship Information
Students interested in transferring to Tennessee Technological University have until Dec. 15, 2009, to apply for scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. Several scholarships are available and students must first apply for admission to TTU online at www.tntech.edu/applyonline. A $15 application fee is required. All transcripts must be submitted by Jan. 15, 2010.If you have questions, contact the scholarship office at scholarships@tntech.edu or at (931) 372-6159.

Here's MTSU Transfer Scholarship Information
Here some information on scholarships at MTSU. Incoming transfer students who may qualify for a $3000 Transfer Academic Service scholarship must apply for admission to MTSU by the Feb. 1 priority scholarship deadline. (This is two weeks earlier than in previous years.) To be considered, students must have a 3.0 GPA and at least 45 earned hours at the end of the Fall 2009. Priority will be given to students transferring from a TBR community college who are receiving an academic scholarship at the current institution. Updated information about MTSU's academic scholarships will be available at http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/transfers_scholarships.shtml by mid-October. Phi Theta Kappa members may apply for a $4000 PTK Scholarship by submitting the application available at http://www.mtsu.edu/scholarships/forms/PTKapplication.pdf. Hey DPSW 0800 Students: Your Words Could Win a Scholarship!
Students taking DSPW 0800 this semester should enter the Developmental Writing Scholarship. Write a five paragraph essay on "Taking Charge of My Life." Two tuition scholarships will be given with the winner receiving $500 and honorable mention receiving $300. Celebrate Ecuador on Tuesday
Join the International Fee Oversight Committee next week as we celebrate the music, people and politics of Ecuadr on Nov. 17 At 9:45 a.m. in the theatre, Dr. Scott Beck and Dr. Kenneth Mijeski will address the culture and environment of Ecuador and the social, economic, and political change in Ecuador. The political influences of the indigenous population will be a specific topic of discussion. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., treat yourself to some cuisine of Ecuador being sold in the Humanities Lobby. This will be a fundraiser for the International Club. At 1:30 p.m. in the theatre, the group Athualpa makes an encore performance with pan flute music from Ecuador led by the world renowned artist Bolivar Burga. Their mix includes contemporary music, tropical dance rhythms, relaxing instrumental native tunes, as well as the traditional music of the Andes.

Goss Named Preseason All-American
Walters State sophomore guard LaKrystle Goss was named a preseason first team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association. Goss, a graduate of Austin-East High School in Knoxville, was also named an All-American last season and is averaging 15.3 points, 4.1 steals and 3.7 assists per game this year. Congratulations!

Lady Senators Win...Again
The Lady Senators began the season as the 11th-ranked team in the nation, and they have certainly played that way so far. WSCC has opened the season with three straight wins, including a 100-59 victory over TCCAA rival Roane State last Saturday. The Lady Senators will be in home action this week, playing Southwest Tennessee on Friday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. and then taking on Dyersburg State on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m.

Senators Open Season 3-0!
The Senators have opened the basketball season with a spotless
3-0 record, including a road win at Roane State in their TCCAA conference opener last Saturday. WSCC has been dominant so far, averaging 87.3 points per game on offense while only allowing 67.7 points per contest. The Senators will play at home twice this weekend, hosting Southwest Tennessee on Friday, Nov. 20, at 8 p.m. and then taking on Dyersburg State on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m.

The International Club will be selling lunch a la Ecuador on Tuesday in line with the college's Celebration of the country's culture. Here's the menu:

Salad (lechuga): Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado, fresh Cilantro, Seville Orange Dressing
Main: Muchines de Yuca (deep fried yuca pouches filled with savory pork and spices)
Aji (hand made chili sauce) and white rice
Side: Tostones (fried green plaintain chips) with Mojo (garlic-lime paste)

H1N1 Vaccine Available for Qualified Individuals Thursday
Walters State Health Programs and the Hamblen County Health Department will be giving free H1N1 vaccines from 3-7 p.m. at the Walters State Expo Center on Thursday, Nov. 19. The following people are eligible: pregnant women; people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age; health care and emergency medical personnel; anyone from 6 months through 24 years of age; anyone from 25 through 64 years of age with certain chronic medical conditions or a weakened immune system.
