Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Walters State Community
College, the Walters State Center for Workforce Development and the Smoky
Mountains Area Workforce Development Board (LWIA 2) is receiving a substantial
investment from the federal government to create and save jobs, and aid
individuals affected by the recession. Many of these investments are providing
services through the Tennessee Career Centers and related Youth Services.

is to provide industry-driven, easily accessible training for
jobseekers and employees that will:
- Increase the
employment prospects and earning abilities of area residents.
- Help to
reduce employer’s hiring costs.
- Provide a pool
of trained workers who have the basic education and technical skills
that local high-growth, high-demand industries require.
