COLLEGE EXPRESS is a program designed for the adult student who is juggling work and
family but wants to earn a college degree. Adult students have a number of
responsibilities outside the classroom, and this program is planned to address
your busy lifestyle. You can earn an Associate of Science Degree in General
Studies, Associates of Science in Teaching (AST) or complete the General Education
Requirements for Health Programs Majors by attending class one night per week* and
completing one class at a time. You will not have to study for several classes at
once. You will be part of a cohort of students just like you, busy working adults.
Your classes will encourage teamwork and individual support as you share the experience
of learning together. Classes will be taught by committed WSCC instructors who want you
to succeed.
General Information
College Express is a fast-track alternative delivery program. Students may complete an
Associate of Science Degree in General Studies or Associate of Science in Teaching Degree
in twenty four months by attending class at night. Following completion of the degree
students may want to transfer to a four-year institution for completion of the bachelor’s
degree. Students may also complete the general education requirements for a major in any
of the health programs in 12 months by attending class at night.
Classes are held in either five week or seven week blocks with one class beginning
immediately upon completion of the prior class. Science classes require an additional
night to complete the lab requirement. Progress through the program is continual and
fast paced. Students required to take developmental classes or to make up high school
deficiencies may require a longer time to complete the program or may have to take more
than one class at a time until all required work is completed. Because a significant
amount of learning takes place outside the classroom, students must be highly motivated,
independent learners.
The program is not for everyone. An A.S. general studies degree provides core courses
generally taken during the freshman and sophomore years. An A.S.T. studies degree
enables students to transfer seamlessly into any TBR teacher education program.
Students intending to transfer to a private institution or UT, should consult a faculty
advisor. The General Education for Health Programs Majors classes provides core courses
taken to meet admissions requirements to apply for a degree in any health program.
All students should follow the appropriate curriculum outline for their specific major.
