Walters State’s Morristown and Sevier County campuses will host performances of “A Woman Called Truth” by the acclaimed Word Players of Knoxville.
Shows will be at 12:20 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the Lyceum on the Morristown Campus and at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 23 in CAPE-104 on the Sevier County Campus. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The production shares the achievements of Sojourner Truth, a prominent voice in both the movement for the rights of former slaves and for the rights of women. During the production, Sojourner Truth shares the cruel treatment she received as a slave and talks about how she worked to free her son. The play includes her famous speech, “Ain’t I A Woman.”
The Word Players bring people, history and literature to life with shows that are designed with little or none of the traditional production trappings. Instead, shows rely on a few props and the talents of featured actors.
