If your New Year’s resolution is to find a new job or career, The American Jobs Center in Morristown (formerly the Tennessee Career Center) can help. The Center will offer free workshops in January to help job seekers improve computer skills, get ready for a job interview or launch a job search.
Services are funded through a partnership between Walters State Community College and the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The January workshop schedule is:
•American Job Center Orientation – Jan. 10, 17, 24 or 31, 8:15-8:45 a.m.
•Second Chance Job Readiness (for individuals with criminal records) – Jan. 9, 23 or 30, 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
•Job Readiness I (job search, resumes, applications, more) – Jan. 10 or 17, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
•Job Readiness II (online recruiting, self-marketing, e-portfolios) – Jan. 10 or 17, 1:30-3 p.m.
•Job Readiness III (interpersonal skills, business etiquette, teamwork) – Jan. 12 or 19, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
•Job Readiness IV (making a career transition) – Jan. 12 or 19, 1:30-3 p.m.
•Computer Literacy Email Basics – Jan. 10 or 24, 10-11:30 a.m.
•Computer Literacy Internet Basics – Jan. 10 or 24, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
•Computer Literacy Electronic Presentations – Jan. 12 or 26, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
•Computer Literacy Electronic Spreadsheets – Jan. 13 or Jan 27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
•Computer Terminology and Electronic Word Processing – Jan. 11 or 25, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
•Career Coaching and Guidance – Jan. 11, 18 and 25, 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
•Mock Interviewing – Jan. 13 and 27, 9-10 a.m. and 11-12 p.m.
Hands-on computer usage and mouse training can be taken anytime 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, with the exception of state holidays. This course takes about 90 minutes to complete.
The Center also houses a resource room with material beneficial to both job seekers and employers. Job seekers can use computers, fax machines and printers at no cost. The Center is located at 215 South Liberty Hill Road.
