CareerFirst Has Spots For Summer Work Experience
May 19, 2017

CareerFirst is seeking a few good men and women for this summer.
The program’s summer work experience has a limited number of spaces available for work positions in the following 10 counties: Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Hamblen, Jefferson, Sevier and Union. The program is administered by Walters State’s Center for Workforce Development. To be eligible, youth should be 16-24 and in need of work experience.
“Career First is designed to help youth in our service area enter the workforce,” said Dr. B.J. Lowe, assistant director of Career First.
“We want to help students choose a career and gain experience in that field. Some work experiences do lead directly to a job. For other students, we show them how to take that summer experience and use it to get a good job,” Lowe said.
The program also provides training, high school equivalence preparation, money management skills and mentoring. The program even provides assistance to those young adults wanting to start their own business.
The summer work experience lasts four-eight weeks. Positions are paid.
