Walters State Honors Distinguished Faculty, Staff

Walters State Community College took a few minutes to honor outstanding faculty and staff before starting fall semester. The awards were given during the Fall 2017 Convocation.

The 2017 Distinguished Faculty Award was given to Kristin Rich of Whitesburg, associate professor of biology, and Erika Stevens of Sevierville, assistant professor of Spanish. Rich teaches primarily on the Morristown Campus and Stevens teaches primarily on the Sevier County Campus.

The 2017 T. Henry Drinnon Distinguished Professional Staff Award went to Michael Hasty of White Pine, assistant director of the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center, and Deidre’ Kyle of Morristown financial aid specialist. Hasty works at the Expo Center and Kyle works at the Sevier County Campus.    

The 2017 Distinguished Support Staff Award was given to Fran O’Connor of Tazewell, secretary 3 in the president’s office, and Crystal Bowlin of Bean Station, printing services specialist. Both work on the Morristown Campus. 

Two adjunct faculty members were honored with the Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Award during a dinner welcoming adjunct faculty back to campus. Williams Harold Denton of Knoxville and Mitzi Lee Brown of Greeneville received the awards. Denton teaches physical education and Brown teaches education.
