May Community Education Classes Announced

Walters State’s division of Community Education will offer a variety of classes at the Morristown, Sevierville, and Greeneville campuses and online in May. The schedule is as follows: 

Parents, Children, and Divorce (Court Ordered): 5:30 - 9:30 p.m., Thursday, May 15, on the Greeneville Campus. Divorce is difficult for any person, but extremely hard on children of divorcing parents. In this court ordered parenting course you will discuss what your child experiences when parental communication fails, talking to your children about divorce in a way they will understand and accept, why you should never use your child as a conflict resolution with the other parent, and what effect new relationships have on your child. Essentials of Human Resource Management Certificate. 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, May 12, 13, on the Sevierville Campus and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday, May 19, 20 on the Morristown Campus. Human resource issues impact each company in some way. It is important to understand the fundamental issues surrounding human resources today. The leading global human resource professional organization, Society for Human Resource Management, has developed the SHRM essentials of human resource management course, which provides an introductory overview of the human resource function. Writing Effective Grant Proposals. Wednesday, May 21 - Wednesday, June 18, online. Preparing successful grant proposals to receive funding from corporations or foundations requires careful research, meticulous preparation, and graceful writing. This course will walk you through all the essential steps including an important discussion of what must be done when the grant arrives. You will learn how to become familiar with the institution or project from which you are requesting support. Guidance will be provided in preparing a background statement and a brief financial statement to support your request. You will also research some charitable foundations and corporate giving sources. Introduction to Microsoft Project. Wednesday, May 21 - Wednesday, June 18, online. Discover how to effectively plan, implement and control projects using Microsoft Project 2013. From sequencing tasks, producing a baseline and assigning resources and costs, to tracking progress, analyzing variances and revising your project plan, Microsoft Project can help you organize all of your project’s details quickly and effectively. In the course, you will master the basics of Microsoft Project 2013, create a project schedule, and share it with clients and co-workers. Using the program’s different views, such as the calendar and Gantt chart views, you will learn to manage the project information and produce reports. QuickBooks 2012 Introduction. Wednesday, May 21 - Wednesday, June 18, online. Use the power of QuickBooks 2012 to take control of your business accounting. You will learn how to set up a chart of accounts, pay bills, invoice customers, create receipts, and reconcile your checking account. In addition, you will discover how to track your accounts payable and receivable, manage your assets, control inventory, and generate estimates and reports. QuickBooks is designed for small to midsized businesses that wish to incorporate powerful, effective software with a traditional approach to accounting.
