Kaylin Fletcher is a paralegal with a prestigious firm in Walters
State’s service area. She first worked at the office to meet the
program’s internship requirement. When her internship was over, the
firm offered her a job.
When Kaylin enrolled at Walters State, she wanted to earn a two-year
degree that would lead to a fulfilling and financially rewarding
career. The college’s Paralegal Program proved to be a perfect fit.
“I have always been interested in the law and how the justice
process works,” Fletcher said. She said that her job is usually
spent assisting attorneys and clients. One morning she may be in the
firm’s law library researching state or federal statutes. In the
afternoon, she may be interviewing witnesses.
Many of the clients she meets with have been injured due to the
negligence of another and are now left unable to work or provide for
their families.
“This job is a good way to help people, too. I meet and talk to
people who are facing different challenges everyday. This is a very
hands-on job. Sometimes, just listening to a client is a comfort for
that person,” Kaylin said.
She often accompanies attorneys to court and assists during the
actual trial.
Kaylin says her studies at Walters State gave her the confidence to
handle so much responsibility at a relatively young age.
“The attention I received from professors was great. If I had a
question, I could e-mail or call them. I always received a quick
response and that was very helpful since many of my classes were
online.
“I knew I did not want to go off to a big school where every student
is more or less a number. At Walters State, I knew people cared
about my success.”Learn about other students who
