"Fun Home" Auditions Are Jan. 21-22
January 17, 2020

Walters State Community College will hold auditions for the spring production of “Fun Home” at 6 p.m. on Jan 21 and 22 in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex on the Morristown Campus. Auditions are open to the community. Actors do not need to be students to audition.

This production needs four women, two men, and three children – a girl and two boys. Individuals auditioning should prepare a one-two minute contemporary dramatic monologue and 16 bars of a musical theatre song, preferably one with a pop or rock sound. An accompanist will be available for those who bring sheet music.

“Fun Home” is based on a graphic novel, a relatively new and popular literary form. A graphic novel uses art much like a comic book to tell the story. Graphic novels, though, are long and much more complex in topics and characters.

This musical is based on a memoir written as a graphic novel by Alison Bechdel. The story follows Allison from a child to young adult hood. She wrestles with her father’s suicide, her own sexuality and her adult relationship with her mother.

The story is set in Allison’s home, the family-run funeral home – otherwise known as the fun home.

This play will debut on March 20. The play does have adult situations and language.
