Walters State Celebrates Academic Excellence

Walters State Community College celebrate the academic success of outstanding students with its annual Honors Day Banquet on April 23. 
Tara Chambers, a hotel and restaurant major, received the college’s highest honor, the President’s Outstanding Student Award. Chambers graduated in December, 2018, with a near-perfect grade point average. She volunteered with many local organizations and worked full-time at Maples Motor Inn while a student.
Ashley B. Long of Tazewell was named the Outstanding Claiborne County Campus Student. Madelyn C. Ochs of Kingston and Noah B. Templin of Sevierville were named the Outstanding Sevier County Campus Students. Flor Judith Reynosa Vieryra of Greeneville was named the Outstanding Niswonger Campus Student. 
Kindall Painter of Morristown was recognized as the outstanding staff member of “Gallery,” the college’s literary and arts magazine. Daphne Salvador-Reyes was honored as the Student Government Association Presdent and Katey M.Gibson was honored as the Senators Pages President. 
Two students were recognized as Dual Enrollment College students. Lauren Eccles of Jefferson City and Lynnsey M. Saylor of Tazewell.
Mickala A. Michael of Sevierville and Kaley D. Nicely of New Market received the Faculty Senate Scholarship. 
The following students were honored for receiving Phi Theta Kappa 5-Star Competitive Edge: Pierce D. Morgan of New Market; Lauren Eccles of Jefferson City; Cole Horner of Russellville; Nicholas E. Stephan of  Morristown; Daphne Salvador-Reyes of Morristown; and Austin Hurd of Dandridge.
