Church Security, Welding, More Offered in October

The Walters State Division of Workforce Training’s October noncredit classes include church security, utility security and welding. To register or for more information, contact Kellie Hendrix at Kellie.Hendrix@ws.edu or 423-798-7988.

Niswonger Campus in Greeneville
•Church Security – Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-noon, $79.
This course will provide church leaders with fundamentals and procedures on church security and provide tools to prepare for an emergency situation. This class covers assigning security responsibilities, preparation and training of the security team, performing drills, recognizing suspicious signs and using plain clothes and visible security properly.
•Israeli Shooting Technique, Range Training – Oct. 12, 1-4 p.m., $29 
This course covers different shooting techniques when under pressure. Topics include Israeli point shooting technique, selective combat, shooting behind cover, shooting stances, fixing malfunctions under stress, quick reaction training and responding as a team. 

Workforce Training Building, Greeneville
•Welding Level 1 (Stick Welding) – Oct. 15-29 (Tuesday/Thursday), 5-9 p.m., $274 
This course introduces students to shop practices, materials and skills related to Shielded Metal Arc Welding or Stick Welding. This process is one of the commonly used processes. This course places an emphasis on developing basic skills and understanding variables. 
•OSHA 10-Hour Training, Oct. 29-30, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., $199.
This class covers construction industry safety and health standards for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1926. This class provides an introduction to OSHA and covers OSHA Focus Four Hazards, personal protective and lifesaving equipment, health hazards in construction, excavation, scaffolds, stairs and ladders, and power and hand tools. 

Morristown Utility Systems Training Room
•Security for the Field Worker, Oct. 17, 1-3 p.m., $99
Learn how to recognize suspicious signs while working with clients in different environments. Learn the different types of violent personalities and how to recognize them. This course will also provide recommendations for responding to a threat as a team and self-defense techniques. Different scenarios will be analyzed in class. 
•Facility Security for Utilities, Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., $295
This class teaches Israeli tactics in dealing with terrorism threats to utilities. Students will learn to know the characteristics of the facilities, check for weak and sensitive points, look for possible attack scenarios and needed counter measures, manage a security file, create procedures, perform routine patrols, technology security solutions and walking through past security events in similar facilities. 

Morristown Campus

•Microsoft Excel Level 3 – Oct. 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $150
This course covers advanced concepts including multiple worksheets and workbooks, advanced formatting options. and customizing excel. Students will learn how to use tables, pivot tables, data, external data and macros.
