To Our Alumni: Thank You
March 30, 2020

Over the past 49 years, thousands of health care providers and first responders have graduated from Walters State. Most of them are serving on the front lines of East Tennessee’s coronavirus response. To these alumni, we say “thank you.” We’re always proud of you – but even more so during this crisis.

“The reward for an educator is the success of a student, and our faculty and staff are certainly seeing that success in this difficult time for our country,” said Dr. Tony Miksa, president of Walters State.

“Our alumni are filling so many roles in hospitals, clinics and even the national guard. We want them to know that we are proud of them and we are also hoping for this crisis to end shortly so they can return to normal schedules and spend time with family.”

Walters State is known for training outstanding nurses, registered respiratory therapists, physical therapist assistants, pharmacy technicians, health information management specialists, paramedics and law enforcement officers. In recent years, we have added surgical technicians and occupational therapist assistants. And when you call an ambulance in an our service area, there’s a good chance a Walters State alumnus will arrive as an EMT or an AEMT.

Our non-credit students are working closely with patients as certified nursing assistants, phlebotomists, medical assistants and EKG specialists.

We are also proud of health care professionals who started at Walters State, transferred and are doctors, pharmacists, clinical lab specialists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
