Student Receives National Honor
October 1, 2021

A Walters State student has been named a 2021 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar.
Hannah Starnes, pre-medicine major from Morristown, is one of only 207 college students in the nation to receive this honor, which includes a scholarship. The award is given by the Coca Cola Scholars Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for community colleges.
“Hannah excels in the classroom and in the community,” said Dr. Tony Miksa, president of Walters State.
“This award is given based on academic achievement, community service and leadership potential. We are proud that she chose to attend Walters State and look forward to seeing her succeed at many levels.”
More than 900 students applied for the scholarship.
“The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation has a long history of providing financial assistance to outstanding students at community colleges,” said Jane Hale Hopkins, President of the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.
“We are proud to partner with Phi Theta Kappa to make it possible for more deserving students to achieve their educational goals and support tomorrow’s leaders of the global community.”
