Communications and Marketing
Strategic Communications and Marketing
The Office of Communications and Marketing leads the college’s communications and marketing strategy, advancing Walters State’s mission, priorities and goals.
We partner with departments across the college to identify audiences, shape messages and determine the most effective ways to reach them. Our team provides strategic direction and expertise in marketing, creative services, media relations, digital communications and storytelling while ensuring a consistent and professional Walters State brand. For additional information please view the Communications and Marketing FAQ at the bottom of this page.
Planning & Timelines
Communications and Marketing works with campus partners to determine the best approach for reaching your audience and meeting your goals. Submitting a project request starts that conversation. Depending on the project, our team may recommend a different approach, timeline, format, or communications strategy than what was originally requested.
Please submit requests as early as possible. Lead times vary depending on the scope of the project, the services needed, and current workload. Providing complete content and responding promptly to questions or proofs helps us keep your project on schedule.
General Planning Guidelines
- News releases and media publicity: At least 2 weeks
- Routine design projects: 2–3 weeks
- Photography and video coverage: At least 2 weeks
- Larger publications, campaigns, or complex projects: 4–6 weeks or more
- The Senator submissions: 10 a.m. Friday for consideration the following week
- WSCC Website & Catalog Updates: Small updates are typically completed within 2 weeks. Larger projects will take additional time and communication.
- WSCC event calendar listing: Calendar events are usually listed within 2 weeks, unless we are waiting on additional marketing assets.
If you have a firm event, print, or publication deadline, please include it with your
request. Our team will review the request, consider the best way to support your goals,
and work with you to determine what is feasible within the available timeframe.

- I need a directory update.
- Can I use AI-generated artwork for flyers and social media?
- Where is the email signature generator?
To update an employee listing in the WSCC online directory, please submit your request to Human Resources. Communications and Marketing receives an updated list from HR once a month.
If you need changes to a Faculty and Staff page on the website please DO submit these updates to Communications and Marketing with the Creative Services Request Form.
Yes, but all content must adhere to WSCC brand guidelines and feature official, unaltered logos. Because AI tools redraw and distort logos, you must never run official marks through an AI generator.
- Internal Flyers: If your flyer uses any WSCC logo, it must be reviewed. Submit a Creative Services Request, choose Brand Review, and allow at least 2 weeks for approval before publishing.
- External or Official Promotions: For public events or official program promotions, Communications and Marketing must
design the final asset. You may include your AI-generated mockups as concept references
when submitting a standard Creative Services Request.
- Do not use AI to generate WSCC logos or QR codes, as AI alters brand marks and causes scan errors.
The email signature is located here: https://ws.edu/employeefiles/signature/index.aspx . This page requires a WSCC login.
