Orientation Information

The New Student Orientation program at Walters State is one of the first steps to guide new students toward a successful transition and start on their academic journey.

Walters State’s Orientation experience consists of the following components:

Online Orientation

First-time degree or certificate seeking students and new transfer or readmitted students:

First-time degree or certificate seeking students, as well as new transfer or readmitted students, are required to complete online Orientation. Students will be notified in their Application Status Portal, via email and MyWS account alerts when online orientation should be completed and instructions will be provided.

Academic Advising

First-time degree or certificate seeking students and new transfer or readmitted students:

After completing online Orientation, first-time degree or certificate seeking students, as well as new transfer or readmitted students, will be assigned an academic advisor and notified in their MyWS account to schedule an academic advising appointment. During the academic advising appointment, students will select and register for classes for the upcoming semester.

Senators Start-Up

Senators Start-Up is your in-person opportunity to launch a successful beginning at Walters State as a new student. Start-Up events are designed to welcome and support you during your first semester at WS and include time to meet new friends, connect with WS students and faculty, learn about the technology platforms you will need as a student, and finalize details for the upcoming semester. New students will receive invitations to attend Senators Start-Up events via Senators Mail and RSVP is required.
