New Scholarship to Assist Students Entering Engineering, Engineering Technology Fields

Morristown Utilities has established a scholarship to financially assist students studying fields related to engineering and engineering technology.

“Walters State is an important part of our community and has always assisted us with advancing employee education and providing training in many areas,” said Jody Wigington, general manager and CEO for Morristown Utilities.  “Our workforce is critical to maintain our mission and provide the services our customers expect.  We look for and need new talent in specific areas like engineering and technology. This scholarship is one of the best ways to support our community and the students at Walters State.”

The Morristown Utilities Scholarship Fund will award one scholarship to a graduate from both Morristown-Hamblen High School East and Morristown-Hamblen High School West. The priority for scholarships will be students who are pursuing an associate of applied science in electrical engineering, an associate of science in pre-engineering or an associate of science in engineering technology.

“We are grateful to Morristown Utilities for the financial assistance they will be providing to our students,” said Chris Cates, assistant vice president for college advancement at Walters State. “Through this scholarship, Morristown Utilities will help in providing employees needed in this areas for the future.”

The Morristown Utilities Scholarship Fund is established with the Walters State Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as the fundraising arm of Walters State.
