Fund Designated For Engineering and Technology Students
Morristown Utilities has donated $4,000 to scholarships for Walters State students
through the Walters State Foundation.
“We appreciate this gift and the trust Morristown Utilities places in Walters State
to prepare our students to meet the workforce needs of the future,” said Dr. Saul
Reyes, president of Walters State. “Our long-standing partnership with MU benefits
both the college and the community.”
Scholarships will be awarded to one graduate each from Morristown-Hamblen High School
East and Morristown-Hamblen High School West.
“Our partnership with Walters State plays an integral role in providing quality education
and training opportunities, not only for MU’s future workforce but also for businesses
and industries throughout the Lakeway Area,” said Stan Greene, director of marketing
and public relations at Morristown Utilities. “The Community Care Fund provides valuable
support to students pursuing careers in engineering and technology, helping prepare
the next generation of skilled professionals. We are honored to partner with Dr. Reyes
and Walters State in investing in the future of our students and our community.”
Morristown Utilities and Walters State developed an apprenticeship program that provides
state-mandated training for entry-level CDL drivers.
MU also provided $150,000 to install lighting on the college’s baseball and softball
fields, enabling Walters State to host state tournaments that generate significant
tourism revenue for the region. MU has also supported the college’s e-sports team.
