Overview - EMS - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
The Associate of Applied Science, Emergency Medical Technician provides the skills
needed to become a leader in emergency medical services or public health. Enrolling
students are required to have an emergency medical technician license and an advanced
emergency medical technician license. Students take general science requirements and
classes focused on emergency medicine. Skills are taught in the classroom and in clinical
settings. Classes teach advanced skills focused on the management and treatment of
acute patients. Topics covered include patients with special challenges, environmental
emergencies, and trauma and shock. Students also learn about EMS operations management.

Students must apply, meet admission requirements, and be accepted by Walters State Community College (WSCC).
Funding Your Education
Tuition is set each June by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Tuition and fees for the current academic year may be viewed on the Cashiers Office website.
Four types of financial aid are available; federal, state, institutional and other sources. Students need to send FAFSA information to the college for consideration for state and/or federal money (lottery scholarships, Pell grants, etc.). WSCC is an eligible institution for Hope (lottery) scholarships. For specific information please contact the Financial Aid Office.
