Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Transfer Pathway

Turn Outdoor Passion Into Your Next Step

Students in an ecology classroom

If you feel most at home around forests, streams, wildlife, or open spaces, your college experience doesn’t have to stay inside a classroom.

Forestry, wildlife and fisheries classes at Walters State give you the opportunity to explore the science behind the natural world while building a strong foundation for continued study and a future career. You’ll study wildlife, forests, fisheries, conservation, ecology and natural-resource management — and get hands-on experience applying what you learn.

That can mean identifying trees and wildlife, studying ecosystems, gathering data in the field, exploring stream health, conducting research, or learning how scientists and natural-resource professionals make decisions about the environments they manage.

And if your goal is a bachelor’s degree, you can start close to home at Walters State and follow a clear path toward continuing your education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Want to earn a bachelor’s degree in wildlife or fisheries science? You can start that journey at Walters State.

An articulation agreement with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, creates a direct transfer route for Walters State students. You can complete an Associate of Science in General Studies at Walters State that includes the biology and natural-resource coursework you need before transferring to UTK to continue toward a bachelor’s degree.

That means you can spend your first two years building your foundation at Walters State — taking courses in forestry, wildlife and fisheries, conservation, dendrology, ecology, biology, chemistry and related subjects — before continuing your education at UTK.

Once at UTK, students can pursue concentrations in Wildlife Management or Fisheries Management.

It’s a path designed to help you start close to home, gain hands-on experience and keep moving toward the career you want.
