Completing the FAFSA – WSCC School Code 008863

To receive student financial aid, you need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every school year. The WSCC academic year begins July 1 and ends June 30. For Financial Aid purposes, summer school is considered a "trailer", the last term of the academic year. Regardless of when classes end, the start date determines which FAFSA should be completed.

The FAFSA

Please read each question on the FAFSA carefully before answering. After completing the FAFSA and each subsequent correction to the FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Federal Processor. READ every SAR in its entirety, especially the comments section. The SAR will indicate if your application has been selected for Verification. If selected, please submit all documents as soon as possible to the WSCC Financial Aid Office. Any discrepancy must be resolved by the Financial Aid Office before a determination of eligibility can be made. Thus, carelessness in filling out the form can result in a delay in financial aid. The verification process can take several weeks for completion. Therefore it is very important to apply early. We recommend filing your FAFSA as soon as you have completed your federal tax returns. Read below for tips and information that can help with completing the FAFSA and Verification (if selected).

You must include the Walters State School code 008863 on your FAFSA application.

If you need assistance completing your FAFSA a local counselor from the Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is available to assist students with the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on the Walters State Morristown Campus each Wednesday. There is no charge for this service. Please call 423-585-6811 to schedule your appointment now.
