The 2022 Winter Horse Series Is Happening Now

The 2022 Winter Horse Series, sponsored by the Walters State Ag and Ag Alumni clubs,
features a variety of events being held at the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center.
“This is a great time to get your horses out in the winter and exercise in a arena
environment,” said Tera Howerton, head of Walters State’s agriculture program.
Since the series’ inception, more than $100,000 has been raised for agriculture scholarships.
Events also provide agriculture majors with valuable experience in event management.

• Ranch Sorting: Feb. 1 and Feb. 24, 6:30 p.m.
Ranch sorting practice is done by a two-person team with a two-minute time limit.
Practice runs are $5 with an open jackpot beginning at 9 p.m.
• Fun Run Night: Feb. 15, 6:30 p.m.

• Open 4D Jackpot Barrels and Exhibitions: March 1, 4:30 p.m.
Exhibitions 5-7 p.m. (30-minute time slots); Open 4D jackpot at 7 p.m. Exhibitions
to follow jackpot pending number of entries. Exhibitions are $5; Open 4D jackpot is
$30.
• Limited Round Robin Team Roping: Jan. 27, Feb. 17 and March 22.
The deadlines to enter for each session is 6 p.m. Jan. 27; 5 p.m. Feb. 17 and 6 p.m.
March 21. Arena opens at 5 p.m., with roping starting at 7 p.m. The fee is $150 per
roper with a 60 percent payback. Entries must be made online at facebook.com/wsccagclub.
• Exhibition Barrels and Poles: Jan. 25, Feb. 22 and March 15.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with exhibition beginning at 5 p.m. Fee is $10 per rider with
each rider receiving two exhibition-run tickets. Additions tickets are $3 or 4/$10.
Admission fee is $10 for individuals just wanting to ride. Only paid riders will be
allowed in the arena with horses.
• Heel-O-Matic Team Roping Round Robin: Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 24.
This event is great for beginners and is open to everyone. Gates open at 5 p.m. with
roping starting at 7 p.m. sharp. The fee is $30 per roper with a 50% payback. For

• Ranch Rodeo: Feb. 19, 7 p.m. Admission $10 adults and $5 ages 7-17.
Events include team roping, calf branding and doctoring, wild cow milking and more.
• Speed Show: March 18 and March 19.
Friday entries open at 3 p.m. with money classes beginning at 8:30 p.m. Saturday entries
open at 9 a.m. with money classes starting at 3 p.m.
