Paramedic Program Celebrates 30th Class

Walters State Celebrates Paramedic Class of 2023
Students enter the paramedic program as advanced emergency medical technicians and spend a year in both classroom and clinical training.
Graduates are:
Cocke County: Dustin Williamson of Newport.
Grainger County: Ruthie Tolliver of Washburn.
Hamblen County: Justin Cody, Jacob Courtney, Hallie DeMayo, all of Morristown.
Hawkins County: Nicholas Reeves of Rogersville.
Jefferson County: Jacob O’Quinn of New Market.
Knox County: Timothy Hensley of Knoxville.
Union County: Riley Williams of Maynardville.
The Clinical Excellence Award was presented to DeMayo. The Academic Excellence Award
was given to Reeves. Williams received the Student of the Year Award.
Tolliver was recognized with the Doug Allen Johnston Award. This award is given in
honor of a dedicated student who lost his battle with cancer shortly after completing
the program. The award is given by his parents, Buddy and Vicki Johnston of Kingsport.
The Johnstons have also endowed a scholarship for paramedic students in their son’s
honor. At the end of the graduation ceremony, the couple was presented a plaque of
appreciation from Walters State.
