Debate Team Hosts Tournament, Captures Awards

The Walters State Debate Team won several awards at its own tournament, the 19th Annual

Debate Team Hosts Tournament
The Walters State Debate Team hosted the 19th Annual Smoky Mountains Debate Tournament
on Oct. 5, with the home team taking home some awards.
The team of Lorna Baxley and Samantha Miles finished in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Individual awards were won by Lorna Baxley, fourth place/varsity division; Cayden
Keltgen, sixth place/varsity division; Samantha Miles, eighth place/novice division.
The team is coached by Belle Elliott, instructor for communication and debate. The
tournament was held at the college’s Morristown Campus. The team is open to all students
