Walters State Debate Team Readies for Spring Season
The Walters State Community College Debate Team will begin the spring semester season with a shot of confidence gained through the notable performance of team members at the Pejaver Memorial Tournament, held at Middle Tennessee State University in November.
The team won the Sweepstakes Prize, the highest award given at the tournament. The
team of Cayden Keltgen and Chris Cox won their division and Hannah Stoneman made it
to the semifinal round. Keltgen was named top speaker and Cox received third in the
individual speaking awards.
“This was an exciting win, and I am looking forward to a great spring semester,” said
Belle Elliott, instructor of communication and coach of the Walters State Debate Team.
“The newest members of our team have had the opportunity to grow. Those members have
traveled and and learned new skills that will help them in areas outside debate. The
more experienced team members have had the opportunity to take leadership roles and
be an invaluable resource to our up-and-coming members,” Elliott said.
The Walters State Community College Debate Team will compete Feb. 9 at the at the Tennessee Valley Invitational Tournament at Pellissippi State Community College. The team welcomes new members. For more information, contact Elliott at Belle.Elliott@ws.edu.
