Enjoy a Concert or Two
You’re invited to celebrate the holidays with the talented students attending Walters State Community College. All events are free and open to the public.
Hamblen County
• Concert Choir and Chamber Choir Concert
Thursday, Nov. 21, 7 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church, Morristown
This performance is directed by Dr. Elissa Keck Hodge, associate professor of music
and head of the Music and Theatre Department, and Clay Oglesby, instructor of music
and director of the choirs. Matthew Mimbs and Kathy Bowen are accompanists. This concert
includes a mix of traditional religious music and more contemporary choices, including
“Danny Boy” and “Shenandoah.”
• Morristown Jazz Band Concert
Tuesday, Nov. 26, 7:30 p.m.
Theatre, Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex
This 21-member jazz band is directed by Michael Thomas. This concert features jazz
classics including “The Chicken” and “Oh, You Beautiful Doll.”
• Morristown Community Band
Sunday, Dec. 1, 4 p.m.
Theatre, Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex
This band performs under the direction of Brandon Tilley. The band plans to perform
a combination of crowd favorites and Christmas music.
• “Peace on Earth,” Morristown Campus Community Chorale
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 7 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church, Morristown
Enjoy music of the Christmas season and nonseasonal music. Selections were chosen
to focus on the many definitions of peace: harmony in personal relationships, the
absence of war between nations, and freedom from anxiety and inner conflict. The chorale
is directed by Clay Oglesby.
Sevier County
• Sevier County Community Band Concert
Monday, Dec. 2, 7 p.m.
Conner-Short Center, Sevier County Campus
This band includes students and members from the community. Tom Lundberg serves as
director.
• Sevier County Campus Holiday Choral Concert
Tuesday, Dec. 3, 7 p.m.
Conner-Short Center, Sevier County Campus
This concert is directed by Laura Weathersby, instructor of music and campus choir
director. Caitlynn Hopkins will be the accompanist. The concert feature both the Walters
State Sevier County Concert and Chamber choirs. Songs will include traditional spirituals
and classical repertoire and end with some fun Christmas favorites including a jazzy
rendition of “Jingle Bells.”
