"Jackie Robinson Steals Home" Coming to Three Campuses
The Word Players will be performing “Jackie Robinson Steals Home” at three Walters State Campuses. The college invites everyone to attend the free event in celebration of Black History Month.
The play chronicles the life story and achievements of the legendary baseball player. Robinson was the first African-American athlete to play major league baseball, breaking down a huge barrier for all those coming after him. Even those rooting against him were impressed by his ability to avoid conflict and simply perform to best of his ability. He provided a lasting example for everyone trying to rise above negative circumstances.
The play will be performed on the following dates:
• Monday, Feb. 26, 11:10 a.m., Niswonger Campus, Lyceum.
• Monday, Feb. 26, 6:30 p.m., Morristown Campus, Lyceum inside the Dr.
Wade B. McCamey Student Services Center.
• Thursday, Feb. 29, 2 p.m., Claiborne County Campus Auditorium.
The Word Players, based in Knoxville, performs a touring production each February. Tickets or reservations are not needed.
