Young Singers Invited to Audition and Join

The Walters Fine Arts Academy will host the Blue Ridge Youth Choir for singers in grades three through eight. The choir is co-directed by Kaitlyn Younger, former director of the West High School Choir and assistant director of the Walters State Community Chorale.

Auditions will be held on Tuesday. Sept. 2, beginning at 4 p.m. and must be scheduled in advance using this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfRojQcL_bC5JW-ZSVhAZcRVOFJx0SJLCPYFS20pe16vvks7Q/viewform.

No previous choir experience is required. An audition does guarantee admission to the choir. Dues are $50 a semester and will be collected during auditions.

The choir will rehearse from 4-5 p.m. on Tuesdays. The audition and rehearsals will be held in the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex on the Morristown Campus.

“I got my musical start with Laura Ritter and the Lakeway Children’s Choir,” Younger said. Ritter is the retired director of music and theatre at Walters State and choir was a special project for her.”

“Early music education shaped us profoundly and when the Lakeway Children’s Choir ended, we wanted to bring back a community youth choir,” Younger said. “The Blue Ridge Youth Choir is designed to bring the joy and impact of youth choir back to our community,” said Younger. “We have partnered with talented collaborators to bring a vibrant, welcoming choir for local elementary and middle school students.”
