New Floor Installation Class Coming to Walters State

August 6, 2025

The first floor installation class begins Aug. 28.
This certification can lead to a very successful business or add new skills for current construction contractors.

Scholarships Available to Cover Tuition

A new noncredit course offered by Walters State Community can lead to a career as a certified flooring installer. The cost is $875 for each 15-week session, with scholarships available to most students through the Floor Covering Educational Foundation.

“The demand for floor installers is expected to see continued growth in the coming years, with the average floor installer 56 years old,” said Robert Davis, director of workforce training at Walters State. “Floors are the foundation of every home and business, creating a constant demand for installers. With dedication, skill and a few years of experience, a flooring installer’s potential income could be up to six figures.”

This 45-week course spends 15 weeks each on carpet, hardwood and resilient flooring, and tile. Each area is taught by an expert, and students can become certified in each area. Classes will meet from 1:30-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Morristown Campus. The first session begins Aug. 28 and covers carpet. Sessions are planned in the spring to cover the other two areas.

While great for new installers, this class is also a way current contractors can add a valuable skill to their business.

No previous experience is needed. As this course is a noncredit course, no prerequisites or test scores are required. Space is limited.
