E-journal Accepting Submissions Through April 1

     “The Mildred Haun Review: A Journal of Appalachian Art, Culture and Scholarship” is accepting submissions for the 2026 issue of the e-journal. The publication emphasizes creative and academic writing that explores, celebrates, narrates, analyzes, redefines and deconstructs what it means to be Appalachian through metaphor, image, experience and research.
     Original work is accepted in the following categories:
            • Poetry (up to five poems)
            • Short fiction (up to five pages)
            • Creative nonfiction (up to five pages)
            • One-act plays (up to 10 pages)
            • Academic essays (limit one, from 8-fifteen double-spaced pages).
     Applicants may submit in multiple categories. Work should be submitted in one document, preferable as .doc, .docx or rtf. A cover letter with any labels to differentiate categories is required. Cover letters should include name, address, phone number, email address, title of submission(s) and a short biography.
     Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Writers are asked to notify the journal promptly if submitted work is accepted elsewhere.
     Submissions should be sent to editor Kenneth Hill, assistant professor of English, at Kenneth.HillFREEWS by April 1. The subject line should include your last name and entered genre(s).
