Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training will offer the 50-hour auctioneering apprentice class online in September. Other noncredit classes available are Microsoft Excel Level 1, SHRM Certification Prep (also online), and Welding Level 3 (TIG). • Auctioneering 50-Hour (Apprenticeship) will be offered online Sept. 15-Oct. 27, 6-10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students learn the basics of auctioneering in an easy-to-understand format that meets the Tennessee educational licensing requirements. The course provides auctioneering fundamentals, with ethics and professionalism strongly emphasized. Upon completion of this course and passing the apprenticeship exam, students may apply for an apprentice license, sending payment and certificate of completion to the Tennessee Auctioneer Commission for issuance of an apprentice license. The cost is $634. This class will meet online using the Zoom videoconferencing platform. 

• Microsoft Excel Level 1 will meet on Sept. 15, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. The location will be announced at a later date. Gain a solid foundation in this popular Microsoft Office product. This class covers creating, saving and printing documents. Students will learn how to create formulas, enter functions, copy and paste, and work with page layout features and handy shortcuts. The class will also look at major differences between Microsoft Excel 2016 and previous editions. The cost is $150. 

• SHRM CP.SCP Certification Preparation will meet Sept. 21-Dec. 7 on Mondays from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Students will learn vital information needed by human resource professionals to excel in their careers. This course prepares you for the certification exam and covers four knowledge areas: people, organization, workplace and strategy. Eight behavioral competencies are studied: leadership and navigation, ethical practice, business acumen, relationship management, consultation, critical evaluation, global and cultural effectiveness, and communication. This class will be offered online through the Zoom videoconferencing platform. The cost is $1,595. 

• Welding Level 3 (TIG) focuses on Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) arc welding. This process is used in manufacturing, maintenance and fabrication. Students learn electrical principles, electrode selection, and preparation, and filter metal selection on joint design associated with TIG welding. Hands-on welding exercises will cover torch control, arc length, puddle control and filler metal manipulation. Exercises are supervised. Students will practice using carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in flat and horizontal positions. Skills learned in this class are suitable for entry-level welding positions. Experienced welders will learn new skills in this class. This class will meet in the workforce training welding classroom at the Walters State Expo Center in White Pine. The cost is $379.
