Next Floor Installer Class Begins in August

No Experience Needed, Grants Available to Cover Tuition
Looking to start a new, in-demand career with very little cost? Walters State’s noncredit flooring installer course might be for you. The program’s second year begins in August. The demand for new flooring installers is so great that the Floor Covering Educational Foundation is providing full scholarships to anyone taking the class.
“The demand for floor installers is expected to see continued growth in the coming years, with the average floor installer 56 years old,” said Robert Davis, director of manufacturing solutions for Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training. “Floors are the foundation of every home and business, creating a constant demand for installers. With dedication, skill and a few years of experience, a flooring installer’s potential income could be up to six figures.”
The 45-week course is arranged in three sections: carpet, hardwood and tile/resilient flooring. The class meets 1:30-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the college’s Morristown Campus. The first session begins Sept. 1.
While this is great for new installers, Davis said it’s also a way for licensed contractors to add another skill to their business. He added that students take photos of their work and end the class with portfolios featuring different designs in all three types of flooring.
No previous experience is needed. No prerequisites or test scores are needed. Space is limited. The cost of the course is usually $875 per section. Full Scholarships are available to anyone taking the class who plans to enter the field.
