Exhibit to End March 25 with Artist Talk

Walters State’s Catron Art Gallery will feature the work of M. Kobe Ling through March 25. The Gallery is located inside the R. Jack Fishman Library on the Morristown Campus. Ling will give an artist talk at 2 p.m. on March 25.

Ling mixes textiles, natural materials and “lucky” objects to create multimedia work. Her art contends with the religious mythologies of her upbringing, superstition, notions of home, and cultural inheritance. She has received the Esther B. and Albert S. Kahn Career Entry Award, the Boston University Women’s Council Scholarship, Constantin Alajalov Visual Art Scholarship, and the Michael Crespo Memorial Scholarship. Ling holds a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Boston University and both a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Louisiana State University.

Her work has been shown at galleries in New York, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

“As an artist from the American South, primarily Louisiana and Tennessee, I make work that speaks to our fears of the dark, of death, of the unknown, questioning what it means to choose to live in these regions today,” said Ling “Drawing from the myths of my religious upbringing, folk tales, and country music, I navigate inherited superstition and write my own.”

The Catron Gallery is open during regular library hours, 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday. Admission is free.
