Spring Humanities Events Include "Macbeth," Concerts

Twelve events are planned this semester to showcase students in the "Division of Humanities."
Spring Schedule Includes Something for All
Spring events planned by the Division of Humanities will entertain and educate while spotlighting the talents of our students. Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.
- Speaker Sarah Frazier, opinion editor for the “Knoxville News-Sentinel,” will speak
about careers in professional journalism at 11 a.m. on April 1 in the auditorium on
the first floor of the R. Jack Fishman Library on the Morristown Campus.
- “The Tragedy of Macbeth” will have 7:30 p.m. showtimes on April 9-11 and a 2 p.m.
showtime on April 12 in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex
on the Morristown Campus. Shakespeare’s dark and brooding tale of murder, mysticism
and mayhem. See what happens when two people choose to chase their ambitions by paying
an unspeakable price in blood. Tickets are $10. Call 423-585-6922 to make reservations.
The box office opens an hour before showtime.
- The Annual Student Art Exhibit begins on April 13 and will show the best work created
this year by our students. The exhibit runs through May 1. Catron Art Gallery will
host this show. The Gallery is located inside the R. Jack Fishman Library on the Morristown
Campus.
- The Morristown Chamber Choir will perform with the First Presbyterian Church (Morristown)
Sanctuary Choir at 7 p.m. on April 19 at the church, 600 W Main Street, Morristown.
Choirs will perform a concert of sacred songs accompanied by the chamber orchestra.
- The Concert Choirs of both the Morristown and Sevier County Campus will join the Chamber
Choir for two concerts: 7 p.m., April 23, in the small First Baptist Church of Sevierville,
located at 317 Parkway, and 7 p.m. on April 24 at First Presbyterian Church, Morristown.
Our students will perform a diverse selection of choral music at these events.
- The Morristown Community Band will perform a selection of traditional concert band
favorites featuring music from the Scottish Highlands at 3 p.m. on April 26 in the
theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex on the Morristown Campus.
- The Sevier County Community Band will perform its spring concert at 7 p.m. on April
27 in the dining hall of the Conner-Short Center (CAPE) on the Sevier County Campus.
- “The Elephant Man” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on April 28 and 29 in the theatre
of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex. This classic tells the story of
a man featured in a Victorian freak show attraction fighting to be seen for his humanity,
not his deformity. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The Advanced T.V. Production Student Film Premiere will be shown at 6 p.m. on April
30 in the Lyceum of the Dr. Wade B. McCamey Student Services Building on the Morristown
Campus. The premiere of a feature film written, produced and edited by students. Visual
effects are provided by students in the college’s digital media program.
- The Walters State Community Chorale and the Blue Ridge Youth Choir Spring Concert
will be held at 7 p.m. on May 5 at First United Methodist Church, located at 1010
East First North Street. This unique concert features singers of all ages performing
classical, folk, gospel and pop music.
- The Walters State Jazz Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. on May 5 in the theatre of the Judge William H. Inman Humanities Complex. This concert includes selections from Doc Severinsen’s Tonight Show Orchestra and composer Alan Blaylock.
