Waters to Class of 2026: Dream Big
Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters told members of the Walters State Community College spring 2026 class to dream big.
“Everything I have been able to accomplish started with a dream,” he said. “Dreams don’t come true because you have them. Dreams come true because you’re willing to work hard.”
Waters encouraged graduates to remember that where you start does not determine where
you finish, hard work still matters, and your character will take you farther than
your talent.
Dr. Reyes, president of the college, encouraged graduates to reflect on their accomplishment,
realizing that the journey will continue.
“Today, we celebrate more than a milestone. We celebrate your courage, persistence
and the power of possibility. You didn’t just earn a degree or certificate. You’ve
expanded what is possible.”
Reyes welcomed new graduates to the family of Walters State alumni.
“We hope that WS remains part of your journey. As proud alumni, you are our best ambassadors.”
The college awarded 199 associate of applied science degrees and 47 technical certificates.
Students earning these degrees plan to enter the workforce immediately after graduation.
The college awarded the associate of science degree to 403 students. This degree is
chosen by students who plan to transfer to four-year institutions. The associate of
science in teaching degree was awarded to 21 students, the associate of arts to 23,
and the associate of fine arts to five. Academic certificates in Spanish will be awarded
to three students. Awards are conditional upon the completion of spring semester and,
in some cases, summer semester coursework.
Both the Health and Science Ceremony and the General Commencement Ceremony may be
viewed on the college’s YouTube page.
