Noncredit Programs Lead to In-Demand Careers

Want a healthcare career? No time for a degree? Get started with one of these healthcare programs sponsored by the Division of Workforce Training. No prerequisites or test scores are needed.

Classes train registered dental assistants, phlebotomy technicians, certified nurse aides, and clinical medical assistants. The college also offers BLS/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens classes each month at the Morristown Campus.

Clinical Medical Assistant

Clinical medical assistants work with physicians and other healthcare professionals. These assistants prepare patients for exams and treatment, perform routine lab procedures, and assist with diagnostic testing and phlebotomy. The class also covers pharmacology, taking and documenting vital signs, the cardiac life cycle, and professional workplace behavior. This class is $3,000, reflecting a 25% discount for fall and spring students.  

Certified Nurse Aide

This CNA class covers everything needed to provide patient care: assisting with meals, exercise or personal hygiene; taking and documenting vital signs. Students also learn to notice and report symptoms that may indicate an illness. This class includes lecture, classroom skills lab and 16 hours of supervised patient care in a long-term care facility. Students who complete the course may take the state test to become licensed aides.  

The cost is $899.

Phlebotomy Technician

This class includes classroom and clinical instruction in venipuncture. Students are prepared to collect blood samples for laboratory analysis. For certification, 40 successful sticks are required. When the class has been completed, students may take the National Healthcareer Association certification exam.

The cost of the class is $1,500.  

Registered Dental Assistant

This class is approved by the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. Students learn anatomy and physiology, tooth morphology, infection control, restorative dentistry, and radiology. Students are required to complete 30 hours of observation in a dental office. After completing this course, students may register with the Tennessee Board of Dentistry as a dental assistant.

The cost is $2,250.
