Physical Therapist Assistant Program Reaccredited

Program Earns an A+
If college programs were graded, Walters State’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program
just earned an A+.
The program is one of only five physical assistant programs to receive no findings
during its reaccreditation process. The program is accredited by the Commission on
Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education.
Program Director Marisa Miller was “elated” when she heard the news.
“The faculty in this program have worked so hard during the past three years to make
sure that our curriculum aligned with our learning objectives. We know that our students
are ready to work as physical therapist assistants when they graduate.”
This reaccreditation shows that the program meets or exceeds every standard, wisely
utilizes all available resources, and maintains positive and effective partnerships
with clinical teaching sites.
Physical therapist assistants (PTAs) administer treatments and provide patient care,
working under a licensed physical therapist. PTAs work with all ages and are needed
in a variety of health care settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities,
and home health agencies.
The Department of Labor expects the number of PTAs needed to increase by 23% over
the next 10 years.
“Completing this program changes the lives of our students,” Miller said. “They no
longer just have a job. They have a career that offers both personal and financial
rewards. Many are leaving minimum wage jobs to enter this field.”
The program had a 92.3% licensure rate on the National Physical Therapist Assistant
Certification Exam. The program has a 100% job placement rate for students who pass
the exam.
