Professional Licensure Disclosures

Walters State Community College (WSCC) participates in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA). Walters State is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). As a member institution of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR), the college is regulated by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC).

Walters State offers courses, associate’s degree and certificate programs that may lead to professional licensure and/or certification. Students who complete one of the programs of study listed below at Walters State Community College have met the curricular requirements to apply for credentialing in Tennessee. Requirements for other states may vary.

If you currently live in a state other than Tennessee or intend to move to a state other than Tennessee and you plan to use the education completed at Walters State to seek professional licensure in your state, be aware there may be additional requirements for obtaining licensure. Please contact the appropriate licensing agency in the state where you intend to seek licensure regarding the requirements in that state.

Students graduating from an ACOTE® accredited occupational therapy and occupational therapy assistant educational program are eligible to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification exam and apply for licensure in all states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. Student Complaints

Student complaints relating to consumer protection laws regarding distance-learning education offered under the terms and conditions of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) must first be filed with Walters State Community College to seek resolution. Complainants not satisfied with the outcome of Walters State’s internal process may appeal to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission within two years of the time when the incident occurred. For purposes of this process, a complaint is defined as a formal assertion in writing that the laws, standards or regulations incorporated in the NC SARA Policies and Standards have been violated by Walters State Community College. For a list of SARA member states, please visit the NC-SARA website. Students residing in states which are not participating in NC SARA should consult their respective state of residence for further instructions regarding filing a complaint.
