Apply to the Pharmacy Technician Program


Students must read, understand and comply with the following information prior to making application to the pharmacy technician program. The online pharmacy technician program application may be accessed from the following link:

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and are reviewed upon receipt. Qualified applicants are admitted until the class has been filled.

 

The program covers three semesters, the first two semesters are classes and labs, and the final semester is clinical pharmacy experience and seminar. Classes and labs are offered in the daytime over 2 to 3 days per week on the Morristown campus.

Timetable of Classes

 

  • Maintain a grade of C or better in each course for retention.
  • Obtain certificate as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider.
  • Submit a criminal background check and drug screening.

    The criminal background check and drug screening (at the student's expense), will be required to finalize your application. The checks may be used to make legally compliant and appropriate decisions regarding continuation in the program.

  • Prior to the clinical training phase of the program, the student must submit the following: required immunizations and laboratory tests, medical history, liability (malpractice) insurance, all at the student's expense.
  • Individuals who have been convicted of crimes other than minor traffic violations could be ineligible for clinicals, the pharmacy technician national certification, or registration in the state of Tennessee. Prior to the clinical training phase of the program, the student must submit the following: required immunizations and laboratory tests, medical history, liability (malpractice) insurance, all at the student’s expense.
  • Successfully complete the clinical training phase of the program.

 

  • Program graduation requirements include the successful completion of the courses in the program with a minimum grade of "C" in each course.
  • Meet the college's graduation requirements, including a cumulative institutional 2.0 GPA excluding developmental or learning support courses.
  • Pharmacy technician graduates participate in the college's commencement ceremony in either May or December.

 

Graduates are strongly encouraged to take the national certification examination given by PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) upon completion of the program. Visit www.ptcb.org for more information.

For future employment in pharmacy practice, graduates must be registered with Tennessee Board of Pharmacy (BOP). Information regarding BOP application requirements can be found here.
