Learning Support
The Learning Support program assists students in developing those academic and social skills necessary for the successful completion of college work.
Courses and activities are designed for students who lack minimum skills, as defined by the Tennessee Board of Regents (Policy 2.03.00.02), in reading comprehension, writing communication, and mathematical computation. Services provided include academic assessment and placement, advising, and accelerated summer programs. The department is decentralized and integrated throughout the academic and student affairs units. Students are encouraged to seek additional information regarding Learning Support from the office of Academic Enrichment, CCEN 215, 423.585.6914.
The instructional components of the program are decentralized and function as an integral part of the college's academic program. Writing and reading instruction is provided by the Humanities Division, and mathematics instruction is provided by the Mathematics Division. The Counseling and Testing Center provides placement assessment in addition to counseling-related services for academic and personal guidance, learning support, and transitional and emotional concerns.
