Expo Center F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center (commonly called the Expo Center) a part of Walters State Community College?

The Expo Center is a campus of Walters State Community College and has some classes that will meet at the Expo Center. When the college does not need the Expo Center for classes or programs, the facility is rented out to different promotors to have events.  The Expo Center maintains the building and the concession stand but typically is not involved with the event.

How many seats does the Expo Center have?

The Expo Center has 3,800 seats.

Is there handicap seating?

Each section of seating has an area along the top row where seats have been removed for persons in wheel chairs.

Do you have handicap parking?

We do have designated handicap parking in front of the building and usually, during graduations, we will offer additional handicap spaces.

How early do the doors open and how much are tickets?

Each event will set their own times for doors to open and ticket prices.

How many horse stalls do you have?

The Expo Center has 404 horse stalls spread between four barns.

Can I come ride my horse at the Expo Center?

If the arena is available, we do allow people to come during regular business hours (8:00-5:30 Monday through Thursday) and ride.  There are many times that the arena is not available. For example, in May we have carpet on the arena floor for graduation and the warm-up ring is set with chairs for the students.  We ask that you call the Expo Center first to see if it is available.  If it is available and you decide to come, you will go straight to the front office before unloading your horse.  We charge $15 per person and have each person sign a liability waiver.  If someone is under the age of 18, they will need a parent or guardian to sign as well.

How do I sign up to participate in an event?

The Expo Center does not organize or run the events. You would need to talk to the promotor of the event to get information on participating in the events.

How do I rent the Expo Center?

To inquire about renting and prices, call 865.674.6003 and speak with Michael Hasty.
