Literacy Conference Planned on Sept. 15
Teachers can gain teaching tools for literacy at Walters State’s 12th Annual East
Tennessee Literacy Conference, planned for Sept. 15 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Walters
State Morristown Campus.
This year’s theme is “Turn the Page." The cost is $75 and includes lunch.
“This conference is a great place for teachers and others interested in literacy to
gain valuable, ‘take-it-to-the-classroom’ techniques to promote reading at all levels,”
Dr. Matthew Hunter, dean of high school programs, the Newport Center and P-16, said.
Dr. Adolph Brown III will be the keynote speaker. Now a clinical psychologist and
literacy expert, Brown’s education began as an at-risk Head Start student. He is the
host of “The Parent Test,” a new reality series streaming on ABC. At this conference,
he will share best practices for classroom literacy.
Other sessions will be announced as the date nears. The conference will also feature
a vendor section, authors, book buses, sessions for K-12 administrators and door prizes.
The conference is worth six hours professional development points (PDPs).
