THSO Awards Campus Police Best in State Title

The Walters State Campus Police Department earned the top college/university police honors in the 20th annual Law Enforcement Challenge, sponsored by the Tennessee Highway Safety Office.  The department also won the title in 2023.

"I am pleased to congratulate Campus Police on winning this award for two years in a row,” Dr. Tony Miksa, president of Walters State, said. “Through their efforts, our campuses are among the safest in the state.”

The award is based on policies for speed detection, enforcement efforts, and efforts to promote safety awareness on campus.

Campus Police officers are certified through the Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Commission. They have full arrest and investigative powers on Walters State campuses.

The THSO is a division of the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security advocating for traffic safety.
