Fall Semester Commencement Ceremonies Are Dec. 12

Two Commencement Ceremonies Honor Fall Grads

Walters State Community College will award 478 degrees and certificates during two commencement ceremonies for fall semester graduates.

A commencement for graduates in health-related programs will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, with a nursing pinning held at 4 p.m. A general commencement will follow at 7 p.m. All events will be at the “Z” Buda Assembly Hall and Gymnasium on the Morristown Campus. 

Dr. Amy Ross, department head for management and professor of business, will deliver the commencement address. Ross joined the faculty at Walters State in 2002. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from East Tennessee State University, a master’s degree in human resource development from Clemson University, and a doctorate in education from the University of Tennessee. 

Ross has previously served as interim vice president of academic outreach and academic affairs. She has served on many college and professional committees, including the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs. She currently heads the college’s leadership program and assessment committee.

Associate of Science degrees enable students to transfer as juniors to four-year institutions to continue their bachelor’s degree. Associate of Science degrees will be given to 187 students. Associate of arts will be given 13, while two will earn associate fine arts. The Associate of Science in teaching will be awarded to five students. One student will receive an Academic Certificate.

Associate of Applied Science degrees prepare students to enter the workforce immediately following graduate in fields such as nursing, engineering technology, law enforcement and business. This degree will be conferred to 93 students. 

Technical certificates will be awarded to 177 students. These certificates represent in-demand workforce skills in fields like law enforcement, culinary arts and medical coding.
