Dr. Linda Nelms, director of healthcare programs for the Division of Workforce Training, is planning a C.N.A. Information Day Aug. 5 in Hancock County.

Learn How to Become a C.N.A. and Find Out if Funding Is Available

Walters State Community College invites those interested in becoming certified nursing assistants to attend a C.N.A. Information Day from 1-3:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 at Hancock County Hospital in Sneedville. A representative from the American Jobs Center will also be available for questions about available funding.
A C.N.A. class is scheduled for Sept. 9-Nov. 20, meeting from 5-10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hancock High School.
The C.N.A. Information Day will feature instructor Phyllis Dossett, clinical director at Hancock County Hospital, and Maureen Duncan from the American Jobs Center. Duncan will discuss what funding information is available to students taking this class.
“We are happy to bring this training to a convenient location for this area,” said Dr. Linda Nelms, director of health program for Walters State’s Division of Workforce Training. “Becoming a certified nursing assistant is a good way to get into the healthcare career in a matter of weeks,” Nelms also said.
Nelms said a C.N.A. is responsible for checking vital signs, reporting symptoms, and providing personal support and hygiene. They work closely with nurses and other health care providers in long-term care facilities, hospitals and as home health aides.
